J j — jé

Letter name: jé (say "yay")

30. betű a tanulási sorrendben · 17. az ábécében · #30 in our teaching order, #17 in the ABC
mássalhangzóconsonant ★ nehéz betű · tricky letter

Hang The sound

/j/ · kitartható · you can stretch it

Zöngés réshang a kemény szájpadlásnál, mint a "jó" elején.

Hungarian j is the "y" of "yes" and "yo-yo". Never the English "j" of "jam" (Hungarian writes that sound dzs).

English-speaker trap: "jó" (good) read with English rules becomes "joe". English j = Hungarian dzs.

★ Miért nehéz ez a betű? Why this one is tricky

Magyar domináns gyerek · Hungarian-dominant child Angol domináns gyerek · English-dominant heritage child

Két külön gond: angol domináns gyereknek a j "dzs"-nek hangzik; minden gyereknek a j–ly helyesírás, mert ugyanazt a hangot két betű jelöli.

Two separate problems: for heritage children, j looks like the English "dj" sound; for everyone, j vs ly spelling, since two letters write the same sound.

Cursive j: the stem goes down to the bottom line and loops back; the dot goes on after the word.

Vonalvezetés Strokes: Fel a középvonalig, le az alsó vonalig, hurok balra vissza fel, ki jobbra. Végül pont.

A j és ly kérdés évekig tart. Most csak a j hang és betű kapcsolatát rögzítsük; az ly 8 betűvel később jön.

Hungarian j = English "y". For English-dominant children, say "yes, yo-yo" as anchors. The j/ly spelling question comes later (ly is 8 letters away) — for now just lock in j = y-sound.
